Creating a Client File (Desktop)
What it is: The process of setting up a new engagement in Draftworx Desktop by specifying the client's name, financial year, period, framework, and working papers.
What it's for
A client file is the container for one engagement period — it holds the trial balance, financial statements, working papers, and client setup information for a single year or reporting period. Creating a new client file is the first step for any new or returning client engagement.
How to do it
Navigate to the Main Client List screen, then:
- Enter the Client Name of the entity.
- Select the Year End — this is the financial year end date of the entity.
- Select the Period — adjust if the engagement covers more or less than 12 months.
- Select the Framework — this is the template that determines the layout of the financial statements. Country-specific frameworks are available.
- Select the Working Papers — these provide the guidance notes and checklists for the type of engagement being performed.
- Press Enter to create the file. The client file opens automatically.
